Train smashes big rig in Bakersfield area

A big rig was struck by a train Monday at Edison Highway and Highway 184 after the truck’s driver was unable to stop before crossing the tracks, according to California Highway Patrol officers. The driver managed to jump from the cab before the big rig was hit about 8:40 a.m., officers said.
