Teenager convicted in murder of fellow teen in 2017

Ivan Ruiz, 19, was convicted in Kern County Superior Court on Friday of first-degree murder while lying in wait. Ruiz killed Michael Ballesteros, 18, on Feb. 9, 2017. Ruiz was arrested Feb. 21, 2017. Ballesteros was shot multiple times and found next to an orange orchard in east Bakersfield near Breckenridge Road and Comanche Drive. Court documents say that Ruiz, who was 17 at the time, killed Ballesteros rather than pay him the $100 Ruiz owed him for a gun he purchased from him. Path to Full Story on 29 Eyewitness News
