Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run in southeast Bakersfield Wednesday

A Hispanic woman was struck by a vehicle and killed shortly after 7 p. m. Wednesday in southeast Bakersfield. California Highway Patrol Sgt. Kelly Olson said witnesses told officers that the woman was possibly walking east across Cottonwood Road, outside of a crosswalk, when she was hit by the vehicle. “We do have witnesses that do put the driver at a considerable speed or at least a speed that was somewhat over the speed limit,” Olson said.
