It was the murder that shook Kern County to its very core. In July 2001, Torie Knapp, a beloved teacher in the Bakersfield community, was viciously stabbed repeatedly by her own son, Parker Chamberlin. "She was in bed, sleeping, when he stabbed her 35 times. It, it really shocks the conscience, and, you know, she also had a lot of people that cared about her,” said Nick Lackie, a deputy Kern County district attorney.
