Swimmers, divers and water polo players soon will have a new spot to compete. The Kern High School District is breaking ground Thursday on the new Kern Aquatic Complex, located at the southwest corner of Old River and Berkshire roads, just north of Independence High School. It will be the first aquatic facility built by the district since it opened the Bakersfield High swimming pool in 1919. That pool was demolished in 1938 when the school’s gymnasium was expanded.
