
Harvey L. Hall disliked talking to people on the phone. During calls with her father, Amy Hall said he almost always got right to the point and asked directly what she needed. However, Hall said she will always fondly remember the end of those phone calls, when she would tell her dad that she loved him and then there would be a short pause before he responded. “It was a bit of time where he would really take in the words. It was almost like he was surprised every single time,†she said. “He would then respond ‘I love you back’ and immediately hang up the phone. My dad’s pauses taught me to never take love for granted.
