
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – Voters in Bakersfield and Kern County voted against tax increases during Tuesday’s midterm election. A new 1 percent general purpose sales and use tax was placed before county voters. Sheriff Donny Youngblood championed the tax, saying it could mitigate the harm done to his and other departments by recent budget cuts. Voters sank the tax measure, 66. 6 percent to 33. 4 percent.
