1 dead, Hwy. 178 closed after crash at mouth of the canyon

UPDATE: CHP Officer Robert Rodriguez said a man is dead in this single-car crash. The driver was heading west on Hwy. 178 at an unknown speed when he left the roadway for an unknown reason, Rodriguez said. The car crashed several hundred feet down an embankment. The road will remain closed for an “unknown duration” while emergency crews are on scene. Authorities were notified of the crash shortly before 8 a. m.
